The Tallest Statue of the world - STATUE OF UNITY – SARDAR VALLABH BHAI PATEL
The Statue of Unity, with a height of 182 meters, is currently the
tallest statue in the world, it is a monument dedicated to the Indian
politician Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Statesman and independence activist
(1875-1950), who was the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of independent
India and adherent of Mahatma Gandhi during the non-violent movement for Indian
independence.
The statue is located in the
south-east of the city of Vadodra, in the province of Gujrat, India, next to
the Narmada river. To reach this place the nearest cities/airports are Vadodra
around 100 km and Surat is 150 kms.
The project was first announced
in 2010 and the construction of the statue started in October 2013
by Larsen & Toubro, with a total construction cost of ?29.89 billion;
US$437 million. Indian sculptor Ram V. Sutar designed it, and it was
inaugurated on 31 October 2018, the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.
The statue is divided into five
zones of which only three are accessible to the public From its base to
the level of Patel's shins is the first zone which has three includes
the exhibition area, mezzanine and roof and also
contains a memorial garden and a museum which catalogues the life of
Sardar Patel and his contributions. The second zone reaches up to Patel's
thighs, while the third extends up to the viewing gallery at a height of 153
metres.
